NS&I announces new Board appointment

The Chancellor of the Exchequer has appointed Simon Ricketts as a non-executive director to the board of NS&I, the government backed savings and investments provider.

Mr Ricketts joined the NS&I Board on 2 July 2007. He replaces Maria Stafford, who left the board in February.

NS&I has 27 million savers and £80 billion invested. It is an Executive Agency of the Chancellor of the Exchequer with a remit to reduce the cost to the taxpayer of government borrowing by offering retail savings and investments products. These products include Premium Bonds, Index-linked Savings Certificates and Direct ISA.

Simon Ricketts

Mr Ricketts has been the Chief Information Officer for Scottish and Newcastle PLC since 2003. He is also the senior non-executive Director of the Strategic Thought Group PLC. He had previously spent 13 years with Cadbury Schweppes PLC in various roles, including Operations Director of the Trebor Bassett Group, Managing Director of ITNET Ltd, and Group Chief Information Officer. In addition he has held various senior roles in the UK Steel industry.

Paul Spencer, Chairman of the NS&I board said:

“I would like to thank Maria Stafford for her hard work and guidance over the past five years which has seen this business go from strength to strength. She paves the way for Simon, who will add significant strategic operations and technology expertise to the NS&I Board, proving beneficial for the business and, more importantly, for our customers.”
