NS&I announces new Non-Executive Director

James Furse joined the NS&I board on 1 January 2012 and replaces Sir John de Trafford MBE, who became NS&I’s Chairman on the same date.

James joins NS&I after enjoying a long and distinguished career with the John Lewis Partnership. He joined in 1981 and progressed through a series of roles to become a managing director within the retail operation. He later moved to managing outsourced relationships, including a key contract with HSBC. He subsequently became Director of Card Services reporting directly to the Chairman, and his final role with the John Lewis Partnership was as Managing Director of Greenbee.com, now John Lewis Financial Services. In 2010, James was appointed Executive Director of The Prince’s Social Enterprises Ltd and became a member of a number of related boards, including Duchy Originals Ltd.

Non-executive members of NS&I’s Board ensure a sound strategy is in place to meet the organisation’s remit. They also act as an external source of advice, maintaining risk control and ensuring NS&I’s links with its strategic partner remain open and transparent.

James is working as Executive Director of The Prince’s Social Enterprises Ltd, a group of Social Enterprises including Retail, Grocery and Organic Food Production that benefit the Prince of Wales’s Charitable Foundation.
