A female from Leeds who holds only £400 in Premium Bonds has won the jackpot prize in the first draw of the New Year. The maximum holding limit is £40,000.

Almost eight in ten people surveyed by National Savings and Investments (NS&I) admitted to spending more money than they might otherwise have done because of being tempted by the prospect of saving money.

NS&I today published its un-audited quarterly results for the second quarter (July-September 2014) of the financial year 2014-15.

This month – for the first time ever – NS&I has paid out over two million prizes, worth more than £58 million.

Across the UK over 928,000 Premium Bonds prizes worth over £41 million remain unclaimed.

This month a Premium Bond bought in September 2014 won one of the two £1 million jackpot prizes, in its first eligible draw.

Almost half a million pounds worth of Premium Bonds prizes – including one for £100,000 – remain unclaimed from NS&I customers based in Australia.

Over three million pounds of Premium Bonds prizes –including one for £100,000 – remain unclaimed from NS&I customers based overseas.

NS&I’s latest Quarterly Savings Survey has revealed that the steady rise in savings levels seen over the last year, from 7.42% of income saved in summer 2013 to 8.21% in spring 2014, came to an end in the summer. Britons are now saving 7.63% of their income each month.

Through his four generations ERNIE has been allocating prizes since 1957 and making millionaires since 1994. This month NS&I paid its 300th £1 million jackpot prize.
