Nikhilesh Dasgupta, Finance Business Partner, Head Office, London
I recently joined NS&I after a rewarding role in local government. I was keen to continue building my career within the public sector and the fact that I can do that whilst also gaining experience of working in a commercial financial services organisation is a huge benefit. Being able to straddle both sectors is fantastic but the scope to grow in what is a relatively small team also appealed to me – I get great exposure across the whole business and I have more responsibility in this role than the equivalent in larger organisations. My role is a busy one and is focused on preparing management accounts for two directorates, managing the accounts payable team and contributing to projects. The diversity of the work, as well as the positive and dynamic team atmosphere is really motivating. I am learning a great deal whilst also using my expertise to benefit my internal customers- and I’m able to balance this with developing my skills through a generous learning and development programme. As well as training courses run by NS&I I can also access wider government learning resources, and I am looking forward to exploring both the NS&I and wider government mentoring schemes too.
Jennifer Crosbie, Internal Communications Manager, NS&I Glasgow Offices
I have worked for NS&I for around seven years as an Internal Communications Manager which involves communicating NS&I’s corporate strategy and annual corporate plan to employees. We do this through various channels ranging from annual conferences, our employee intranet, to smaller scale events across our sites. Throughout my time my role has increased in responsibility as my team has grown and my reporting line changed. My role is really diverse which means I feel continually challenged as the business grows and I have ample opportunity to be involved in different projects touching all areas of the organisation. Working with our internal communications counterparts at Atos also gives my job great variety. Although working remotely from my team can be challenging at times I love the fact that I am at the heart of our operations, and that I get to travel to different sites to run events and talk to our teams. I feel really fortunate to work for an organisation that supports you to develop and is willing to support you personally too. I work part time, which includes one day a week from home, as I have two young children this helps to maintain a good work life balance, which in many organisations is difficult to achieve.
Gary Nong, Market and Competitor Intelligence Manager, Head Office, London
I joined NS&I nearly 10 years ago as a junior analyst and I now lead the same team, driving insight into competitor activity and market trends to clients across the business. It’s been really rewarding to have built my career here and to have progressed into managing this area for NS&I. I’m passionate about the work that I do. Because we work with such diverse customers internally on areas such as economic forecasting, and mapping trends across digital and customer experience by competitors, we get a really rounded view of the business. The social side of working here is also hugely valuable to me – I organise Friday football sessions and am part of the NS&I volleyball team. Being able to balance interesting work with these hobbies is a massive benefit to my well-being, as well as my social life. There is a very nurturing culture at NS&I as well as a focus on our customers, internally and externally. I didn’t necessarily plan to stay as long as I have but it’s rare to find somewhere that is so stimulating, and where I can keep developing and doing what I enjoy, whilst building a great team.

What our people say
NS&I takes part in the annual Civil Service People Survey and we listen to what our employees have to say regularly. We have an employee Listening and Action Group which meets monthly and they review employee feedback and suggest ways to make NS&I a better place to work.
