June delight as new Premium Bonds millionaires made in Hertfordshire and Kent

Two lucky Premium Bonds holders are celebrating the start of June with news of their success winning the £1 million jackpot windfall.

Agent Million has hit the road to deliver the life-changing news to a winner in Hertfordshire and another in Kent. The county of Kent is currently experiencing a hot streak of Premium Bonds millionaires – with the third jackpot win in as many months.

ERNIE, the machine responsible for generating the numbers for each month’s winners, has today drawn the 411th and 412th Premium Bonds millionaires. In total ERNIE has made 19 millionaires in Kent and nine in Hertfordshire. June appears to be a lucky month for winners of the jackpot in Kent with four of the 19 £1 million prizes being won in the calendar month, while this is just the second time that a winner from Hertfordshire has landed the £1 million in June.

The winner from Hertfordshire purchased their winning Bond (292PB399962) in January 2017 and the winner held the maximum amount in Premium Bonds of £50,000.

The Kent winner has £4,210 invested in Premium Bonds, illustrating that you don’t need to hold the maximum value of Premium Bonds to be able to win the top prize. The winning Bond (045BC552141) was purchased back in November 2000.

Jill Waters, NS&I Retail Director, commented:

“1 June marks an anniversary for Premium Bonds and today is the 62nd anniversary of the first Premium Bonds draw.

“Since that time, we have paid out 442 million prizes worth £19.5 billion and for some, the prizes won may have helped achieve a life dream or go some way to assist saving for their financial future. For the two winners in Hertfordshire and Kent, we hope that news of this win will bring them happiness and financial security for many years.”

“Alongside the two jackpot prizes, we have paid out an additional 3.3 million tax-free prizes this month, ranging from £25 to £100,000, and we hope to help those investing in Premium Bonds to create a savings habit that will benefit them now and in the future.”

Do you have Premium Bonds win that you don’t know about?

While we make every effort to pay out the millions of prizes each month, there are over 1.5 million prizes worth more than £61 million that currently remain unclaimed. Premium Bonds may go unclaimed for reasons including if NS&I don’t hold your current address details or if you had Bonds bought as a child but have since forgotten about them. Customers can make sure that their details are up to date and choose to have any future prizes paid directly into their bank account, which will help reduce the likelihood of prizes becoming unclaimed, by registering to manage their Premium Bonds and NS&I accounts online at nsandi.com/register.

In Kent, there are 40,623 unclaimed prizes worth just over £1.5 million. One person from Kent has a £50,000 prize won in November 2007 that remains unclaimed. The customer has £128 invested and the Bond number is 3VT019901. An unclaimed prize from 1959 still remains in the county and is a prize worth £25 with just a £2 investment.

There are 35,457 unclaimed prizes in Hertfordshire worth more than £1.2 million. The highest unclaimed prize is worth £5,000 and was won in December 2007. The customer has just £25 invested in Premium Bonds. The oldest unclaimed prize dates back to March 1962 and is worth £25 from an investment of £13.

More ways than ever before to check your prizes

We now have more ways than ever to find out if you’ve won in our monthly draws. Customers can use the prize checker on nsandi.com, download the official Premium Bonds prize checker app - free from the Apple App Store or Google Play – or use our new NS&I Premium Bonds prize checker skill on Amazon Alexa. Once you’ve put in your details you just need to ask Alexa if you’ve won, it’s as simple as that! Alexa will also let you know what you have won in the previous six draws and if you have any unclaimed prizes.

Jill Waters, continued:

“We know that our customers’ circumstances change and we are reminding people to keep NS&I up to date of any change in details that will help prevent any future prizes becoming unclaimed.

"Customers can now check to see if they have been successful in this or in any previous Premium Bonds draws by using our prize checker, our Premium Bonds app, or by asking Alexa. Holders can also opt to have their prizes paid directly to their bank account, or have their prizes reinvested into more Premium Bonds, up to the maximum investment of £50,000.”
